  • A Proud Tradition

Alf’s Blacksmith maintains the proud traditions of old-time blacksmiths. As a 10th generation master blacksmith Alf specializes in unique one-of-a-kind functional and industrial art. In addition to creating unique art Alf reconditions, restores and repairs antiques, tools, and industrial art. Alf continues to practice the work of the traditional blacksmith and is well known for making tools for wood workers, leather workers and other craftsmen.

  • Traditional Blacksmithing

Alpheus Gary Rudd learned traditional blacksmithing from his family and continues to practice it today in much the same way as his many forefathers before him. While putting his own unique twist on blacksmithing Alf has established himself as a master artisan blacksmith with hundreds of custom functional and industrial art pieces.

  • From Alf:

“I have become a student of 18th, 19th and early 20th century hardware, tools and other items which I re-produce regularly. I make 10th century, Early American and Spanish style hinges and hardware. I perform repairs, restoration, sharpening etc. as would the General Blacksmith of the past. I teach blacksmithing, die forming, proper technique, posture, tool making, fire control, and hammer control among many other things. I am proficient at wood working, tinning and copper but my focus is mostly iron. I do some fabrication when I can fit it in. I work with a combination of coal, propane and modern methods, and I enjoy passing on the techniques and traditions to the next generation.”
